Graduates from different accredited universities and higher learning institutions and those with managerial experience can apply for admission to the MBA Program. The Academy encourages applications from students with academic majors other than business or computer science.

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited educational institution
  • A strong academic record
  • Fluency score on entrance examinations
  • Positive personal interview results

Students may apply at time during the year. Applications forms are available from the MBA Program Office. Students may be admitted to the Program in any semester of the year (Fall, Spring or Summer). Applicants must submit a completed application, official transcripts of all undergraduate course work and a track record of professional achievements.

The Master's Admission Committee will make the final decision on acceptance. A GSU representative is a member of this committee and may conduct a second interview with some of the candidates for admission. Admission into the graduate program is competitive. The Committee will evaluate each candidate individually and in relation to the current group of candidates. The Committee considers the academic performance, educational background and work experience of the candidate. If a candidate is weak in one area, the Committee may recommend additional course prerequisites to compensate for the weakness.

    Regulations for the Degree

The Master of Business Administration is awarded upon completion of a prescribed program ranging from 45 to 57 term hours of credit depending on the academic background of students. One credit unit approximately equated 1.4-2 hours per week load depending on subject content. The program is developed on the assumption that students enter the program with computing skills, algebra skills and communication skills.

    Computing Skills

Because computer are an integral part of business decision making, the courses in the MBA Program frequently incorporate assignments that require computing skills. The current computing skills prerequisites (CSPs) for all MBA courses are shown. The MBA Program expects all entering MBA students to be proficient at a minimum in CSP, Basic Microcomputing Skills. Advanced or more specialized skills, as required by specific courses, must be developed before the courses are taken.

    Algebra Skills (Math 01)

College algebra (BA) or equivalent mathematical knowledge is assumed for all entering MBA students. A list of algebra topics that provide background for MBA courses is available. Also available is a self-administered diagnostic test to identify areas of weak-ness. Students are expected to self select into (BA) or take other appropriate steps if they do not have a working knowledge of college algebra.

    Communication Skills

All MBA students must complete a one-day, noncredit workshop in business communication skills before registering for their course. The workshop is ungraded and covers both written and spoken communication skills. Specifically, it will teach participants how to:

  • Analyze audiences and formulate a conscious communication strategy
  • Write business memos, letters and reports that are clear, concise and objective oriented
  • Use headings, white space and other document design elements to make information more accessible to the reader
  • Develop and deliver effective oral presentations, including appropriate, high-impact visuals in support of key ideas

If a student doesn't have strong background in any or all of these skills, he must take additional courses in computer science, mathematics and communication skills.
